QMA Track Checklist 2008
QMA Safety Check and Registration Form 2008
QMA 2009 Short Sheet
Hello to all of our PQMRA members and a welcome to all of our new families.
I want to let everyone know that I will be at the mock race this next weekend which is on Sunday April 5th. This would be a good time for you to have me look your car over to make sure there are not going to be any Safety problems. It’s a good time to get it done now, and this will allow you time to make any changes before the racing season starts. I would recommend taking a look at the rule book and the 2009 short sheet that is now available. You can find the rulebook and the short sheet on the .org site. (www.quartermidgets.org)
Common things that are found are: Holes in belly pans and firewall. Added Weights not properly wrapped or bolted in. Missing heel stops for Brake side. Safety equipment. Fuel tank overflow tube needs to be below the frame. It is even recommended by National that it is routed along frame and down by the rear axle. (Not a rule, just recommended) Remember those seatbelts; 2 year expiration. Missing bolts for bumpers or nerf bars.
Some suggestions for safety that are not rules, just things I like to do are; wrap that steering column with some padding. (1/2” pipe insulation is great to use) Use some of the same insulation around some of the shoulder bars or vertical tubes of frame that are around the drivers head. Check the seat belt mounting for the best fit for the driver. (Put the driver in the car and check) Remember, our drivers are always growing and the belts may need adjusted for a better fit. Check the pedal positions; you might need to adjust for better leg room.
If you have any safety related questions you can call or email me. 503.970.5726 or kurtraz@msn.com.
Take care,
